 Substitutes:Straight up Respect!

 Many substitutes act as if they don’t enjoy coming to school and subbing for another teacher.  We wanted to find out if substitutes really enjoy what they do, or if they do it on the side for extra money.  We wondered how many substitutes really enjoy it.

HERE WE GO…

 “Yes, I really enjoy being a substitute because I’m not in one class.  I see all different students each day instead of the same subjects and students every day.”

                                                                                                                    Ms. McDaniel

 

“Yes, I enjoy subbing!  That’s why I keep coming.  You have very behaved students here.  The kids here are better than from other schools.”

                                                                                                                     Mr. English

 

“Absolutely, I came out of recruiting camps, and after retiring, I worked at Aynor High School, and I know many of the students and faculty.  I enjoy being a long-term sub at Aynor.”

                                                                                                                     Sgt. Gause

 

We also asked teachers if they thought that a substitute had it easier than a actual teacher.  I personally think a sub has a harder job because the teacher knows the students and how they act, but the substitutes don’t!  Also, when the teacher is gone, we students sometimes think it’s fun to take advantage of the substitute.  Here’s what a few teachers said…

  

“I think it depends on how experienced the substitute is with working with young people.”

“No, it’s not easier in my class, maybe some classes, but not my class.”

“I don’t think teachers nor substitutes have it easy.  Each job has its own challenges.”

                                                                                                  Mr. Altman

 

“It depends on who the teacher is and who the substitute is.  Neither one is easy.”

                                                                                                Mrs. Chestnut

 

 

The conclusion that you can gather from this is that you shouldn’t treat substitutes badly because they’re here to teach you. How would you feel if you were consistently disrespected while attempting to do your job? Put yourself in these people’s shoes before you judge. Substitutes deserve straight up respect!
