We went around asking sergeants and students about R.O.T.C. and if they like it. We got numerous answers from the people we asked such as…

Interview with Sergeant Rouse on how he got started with R.O.T.C…

“I was retiring from the S.C. National Guard, and my wife told me I had to find a new job.  This was a good opportunity for me to do something I  was qualified for, close to home; this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.  AHS is the best school around. I love teaching the students here because they listen and learn quickly and are better than some of the other students at the other schools.”

 Student Interviews

Island Shore Beach, a student who participates in JROTC…

“I love the uniform and being able to ‘drop’ people also…the passion of leadership. I enjoy being a part of the creed.”

Brittany Grey-“My dad was a drill sergeant in the Vietnam war. I love J.R.O.T.C; it’s a good class to be in.”

Ali Pinsky, are you interested in joining J.R.O.T.C. next year?

“No.  Already been in it for 3 years.”

What do you think about it?

“It’s a good way to learn more responsibilities, and it prepares you for later on in life.”

What was something you liked?

“I liked hanging out with my friends and with the rifle team.”

Did you have fun?

“Yes, definitely.”

Would you ever join again?

“No. I had fun, but there are other opportunities.”

Most of the students in J.R.O.T.C. liked it and enjoyed being in it. If you would like to experience learning and gaining character, then we think you should try it out and see if you like it.
