By mid-July a steel mill in Georgetown will be closing. ArcelorMittal announced Tuesday that the mill will be closing until market conditions improve. Since the decline in the demand of steel from the big three automakers, it has forced the company to cut 45% of its global workforce. 242 people will be out of work. For many people the steel mill has been the only way of life over years. Some say when the steel mill goes so will go Georgetown’s prosperity. With the steel mil closing, it could mean a spike in the number of people without jobs. The county is working to provide alternative employment.
