Darlington Raceway: Helpful or Wasteful?

I love NASCAR racing; it’s fun for the whole family, and I really enjoy watching it! I love the Darlington race track; it’s close to home, and it doesn’t cost as much because we don’t have to travel very far. What I was wondering is can the Darlington raceway help out our economy or not? I asked several AHS students what they thought about the race helping the economy. Here are some responses…
“Yes, because all the money people pay for the tickets, snacks, and gas to get there will add up.”
Justin Jones
“No, the money earned will go to the track to fund it and contribute nothing back to society. If the economy was so good, why is it so hard to find jobs, food, and land? If we have money to put on races, some of the proceeds should go to the community that puts up with the event.”
Shane Allen
I feel that everyone is thinking that the money made was spent on the track and the drivers. But, they are wrong; most of the money people paid was to get to the event, to use with the vendors, etc. People come from all over the country for this event; it’s not just people from South Carolina. People from everywhere come and spend their money at this event. In fact, there were people from Canada in front of me this past weekend. I think the Darlington race helped out the economy BIG time!
