Boaters’ Safety

Summer is here, and there will be a lot of boats, jet skis, and swimmers on the water.  It is critical that everyone takes precautions and obeys the boaters’ laws while on the water.  Boaters need to make sure they have enough life vests in the boat for every person and that they all fit.  Also, any person under 12 years of age has to wear a life vest in any boat that is less than 16 feet in length.  You also have to be at least 16 years old to drive any watercraft that has more than a 15 horse power motor.  You also have to be 16 to operate a jet ski (PWC) unless you take the boaters’ education course; then, you can operate any watercraft no matter your age.  It is also a law that you have a fire extinguisher on board your watercraft if your gas tank is built in and can not be removed. It is important to follow these rules while on the water to insure that you will come home safe and sound.
