This summer if you are planning to operate a boat, or jet ski (PWC) with more than a 15 horsepower motor, and you are under sixteen years old, you will need to take a boaters’ safety course.  This course can be taken at SCDNR.com.  If you take the course and pass, you will have to pay $29.95 to print off a temporary boater’s license. The real license will be shipped to you in 5 to 7 business days.  If you take the boaters’ safety course and do not pass, then you do not have to pay.  You can take the course as many times as you want until you pass.  You can also study a video or booklet that can be ordered by mail, or you can take a practice test to see if you are ready to take the real one.  Once you pass this test and receive your boater’s license, you can legally operate any boat– no matter the horse power or your age, and you can legally operate a jet ski (PWC).
