School dances are a tradition at most schools. Through the years there have been many different types of dances for many different reasons. Dances are a great way for young people to socialize. They can also be used for fundraisers and other school programs. There are many ways school dances could benefit our school. Many people feel strongly that we need school dances here at Aynor High School.
There are a few reasons that some people think we no longer have school dances. Hunter Owens said “Maybe we don’t have them because it takes a lot of people and money.” I think there are ways to work around those situations. We could have things for sale at the dances that help to cover the cost. Many teachers are willing to help out at dances. When asked if she would be willing to help out at school dances Mrs. Terry Jordan replied, “I would stay and help out, it would be fun.”
Many people agree that school dances would be fun and they would definitely attend. We see movies and read books about school dances, and it seems to be very exciting. Not having dances is depriving students of a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. Social dances have always been an important part of society, and in today’s society most people cannot attend formal galas and cotillions. School dances are an easy way to hold dances for everyone.
There are many different types of dances that we could have here at Aynor High School. Most schools have homecoming dances, dances for Valentines Day, and other dances that celebrate holidays and certain times of the year. Many people said that a Halloween dance would be an incredible idea. There are so many different options, we could explore our creative side and have dances like no others.
Aynor High School has one dance, and that is prom; prom is not enough. No one knows for sure why or even when the tradition of school dances ended. It would be a great idea to form a dance committee and come up with some ideas for dances. We are missing out on a very important part of high school. Ask your teachers and administrators to think about having school dances.
