On Wednesday, April 22, a fire blazed through parts of Horry County and destroyed many homes.  So far, at least 140 homes have been damaged, and the blaze has consumed 15,000 acres of land in the North Myrtle Beach area. But luckily, no injuries have been reported. On Thursday morning, Governor Mark Sanford issued a state of emergency for Horry County.  The fire and smoke caused many people to evacuate their homes and seek cover in nearby shelters.  North Myrtle Beach schools were dismissed early Thursday morning, and classes have also been cancelled until further notice.  All Horry County rescue squad members are still working diligently to control the flames and prevent any further damage.  At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.
