Two games into the season the girls varsity soccer team has already faced Georgetown and St. James High School. Unfortunately, both games ended in defeat.

On Monday, the team played Georgetown at home and suffered a devastating loss. The score went back and forth the whole game. The Lady Blue Jackets started out strong early in the first quarter with sophomore Roxanne Squires scoring a goal from a corner kick, assisted by sophmore Madison Hines.

When the first half ended, the Blue Jackets were up 1-0. Early in the second quarter the Georgetown Bulldogs knotted the game at 1-1. Sophomore, Monae Boyles, answered back with a goal off the restart, making it 2-1.

The rest of the game went back and forth with senior Jordan Shetzline scoring a goal off of a penalty kick and Sophomore Roxanne Squires scoring late in the game. Unfortunately, in the last two minutes Georgetown scored one more goal ending the game 5-4.

Coach Holland said, “I think we did really well the first game, considering we were missing half of our defense and Brooke Miles got hurt.”

On Tuesday, the Blue Jackets took on the St. James sharks and lost 10-1. The one goal was scored by Sophomore, Monae Boyles, on an indirect kick due to a foul in the goalie box.

The whole team gave an honest effort and played to the best of their abilities. “St.James was a really good team. We were killed by them last year, but this year they only had three goals in the last quarter”, said Coach Holland.

The team’s next game is this Friday against rival, Conway High School. Coach Holland thinks, “It’s going to be a really close game. We could beat them. I don’t want three losses in a row and I do not want to loose to Conway.”

Come cheer on your lady Blue Jackets Friday at 5:30!
