On May 7, 2010, the Aynor High School Future Farmers of America will be going to Sandhills Research and Education Center in Columbia. Not all members of the FFA are going. Some of the members who are possibly going are: Brett Martin, Chris Watson, Courtney Larrimore, DJ Herrington, Skylar Johnson and Seth Richardson.

Some may wonder what an envirothon is, and well it is held by the SC DNR. The SC Envirothon normally hosts approximately 23 teams at the state competition, but at the training this year, only 9 of the teachers in attendance had participated in the past. With all the new interest from across the state, the Envirothon Committee anticipates a substantial increase in the number of teams participating, and the number of students affected by the program. Having been established in 1997, the Envirothon has now generated conservation minded and action-oriented adults, 2 of which were present at the training as teachers, ready to coach the next generation of team members.

Recently at AHS the halls were bombarded with sticky notes. These sticky notes had inspirationalquotes and positive motto’s on them. What was the purpose? It originally started to help people, mainly girls, with eating disorders. The reason it was done at AHS was basically just to see what would happen and to make people happy. We talked to numerous people who really enjoyed seeing the sticky notes and many people thought it was helpful. Mr. Dean Johnson said, “I thought it was a little silly until a student left me one and then I thought it was pretty cool.” Will there be a sticky revolution? Many people believe there should be one, but Mr. Dean Johnson thinks a little goes a long way. Kenzie Pennington said many girls spoke to her and said it made them smile and made their day special. Christian Howell explained that she got the idea from operationbeautiful.com. So head on over to operationbeautiful.com to get more information and to find out how YOU can make a difference. In our opinion, this “sticky situation” was a success!
