H1N1 is a virus that has been spreading across the globe. Also known as the Swine Flu, it can be fatal, and it is important that you take the necessary precautions. You can tell it is the Swine Flu by fever (especially over 100 degrees), sore throat, cough, chills and fatigue, body aches, headache, occasional vomiting and diarrhea. The warning signs for people within high risk groups are: trouble breathing, gray or bluish skin color, not drinking plenty of water, sleeping constantly and not interacting while awake, being especially irritable, not urinating or no tears when crying. The symptoms will go away but come back with a fever and a worse cough. Swine Flu vaccinations will be offered at Aynor High on December 3rd. See the school nurse, with any questions that you may have. We asked people around school for their opinions regarding the flu shots and this is what they had to say:

Are you planning on getting the flu shot?
Whitney Lewis- Yes I am!
Mrs. James- I have had the flu shot but I am undecided about the swine flu shot.
Mrs. Black- Yes, I am.

Have you had the flu shot before?
WL- I don’t know. Probably, yes.
MJ- N/A
MB- I have a seasonal flu shot, yes I do.

Are you or were you scared?
WL- I hate needles, so yes.
MJ- I’m always scared of needles.
MB- No.

Do you think it’s a good idea to get flu shots?
WL- Yes, because you can be put in the hospital if you don’t get one and you may get sick.
MJ- I always think with the regular flu shot it’s a good idea because I’ve been getting it for 5 years and I have yet to get the flu.
MB- Yes, I do.

For more information of the H1N1 vaccination and when it will be available, please the handouts that were passed out on November 3, 2009. If you do not have a handout about the vaccinations ask your teacher for one. Please carefully consider getting the shot.
